A normal troughed conveyor starts to lose material once the incline goes past 18 to 20 degrees. A sidewall conveyor belt solves this. Flexible corrugated walls are bonded along both edges of a cross-rigid base belt and cleats are fixed across the width, so every section of the belt becomes a small pocket. The load stays inside the pocket all the way up, even on a 60 or 90 degree lift.
Plants use sidewall belts where there is no room for a long, gentle conveyor – inside a building, between two floors, in a ship hold, or when feeding a hopper that sits high above the ground.

Points to Tell Us Before Ordering
To size the belt correctly we need the lift height, the incline angle, the capacity in TPH, the maximum lump size and the bulk density of the material. Share the pulley diameters as well – a sidewall belt needs a larger pulley than a flat belt of the same rating. If the material is hot or oily, we change the cover compound to a heat resistant belt or oil resistant belt compound.
For inclines up to about 30 degrees, a chevron belt is usually the cheaper choice. Above that, sidewall is the right answer.
