Why These Details Matter
Width, length and lift decide the belt tension, which decides the rating and the number of plies. Temperature and oil content decide the cover compound – a normal M-24 grade belt will harden and crack on hot clinker, and swell on oily seed cake. Pulley diameter tells us how many plies the belt can safely bend around. Knowing how the old belt failed helps us avoid the same problem.
