ORHR Grade
Oil and Heat
in the Same Load.
Some materials are both hot and oily – de-oiled cake coming out of the toaster in a solvent plant, hot coated fertilizer granules, oily scrap and warm meal. An ordinary heat resistant belt swells and goes soft when it takes up oil, and an ordinary oil resistant belt hardens and cracks with heat. Our Oil & Heat Resistant (ORHR) conveyor belt uses a cover compound built to resist both at the same time, so the belt keeps its shape, its grip on the pulleys and its strength.
What Goes Wrong With the Wrong Belt
| Belt Used | What Happens on Hot, Oily Material |
|---|---|
| General purpose (M-24) belt | Cover swells, becomes sticky and wears fast; edges curl and the belt runs off. |
| Heat resistant belt only | Handles the temperature but absorbs oil, swells and loses cover strength. |
| Oil resistant belt only | Resists oil but the cover hardens and cracks on hot material. |
| ORHR belt | Cover resists swelling from oil and hardening from heat, so service life is much longer. |
Typical Applications
- Toaster / DTDC discharge and de-oiled cake conveyors in solvent extraction plants
- Hot, oil-coated granules in fertilizer plants
- Oil mill and expeller cake handling while still warm
- Warm cattle feed and fish meal plants
- Oily metal scrap and turnings in foundries and recycling units

Choosing Between OR, HR and ORHR
If the material is oily but at normal temperature, a plain oil resistant belt is enough and costs less. If it is hot but dry, a heat resistant belt is the right choice. Use ORHR only when both are present together – that is where it earns its extra cost. When in doubt, tell us the material, its oil content and temperature, and we will recommend honestly.
Tips for Longer Belt Life
- Keep scrapers in good condition so oily fines do not build up on the return side.
- Do not let hot material stand on a stopped belt for long.
- Use a matching oil resistant jointing compound for site splices – see our belt jointing solution.
